Using your own payment account or provider

PostBug default payment provider

At present, PostBug uses Stripe as the payment provider. If you wish to use sender pay and pay forward functionality and don't wish to use your own payment provider, it will use this account. This means:

  1. Payments will come to PostBug and be credited to your account
  2. Payment methods are the ones enabled on the PostBug account
  3. Transaction fees are deducted from the amount paid and only the after-fee amount is counted as budget for postcard sending.
  4. Any refunds will be deducted from your account
  5. Payment alerts and bank/card statements will list PostBug as the payee
  6. The payment email address and email will be from PostBug but will mention your organisation
  7. There is no need to be invoiced for however many postcards are sent with this budget

Using your own payment provider

If you wish to use your own payment provider, this means:

  1. Payments come directly to your account
  2. The payment alert and statement text plus payment email and support address are whatever your account is set to
  3. The payment methods are whatever your payment provider account is set up for
  4. You manage refunds, inquiries and issues directly
  5. You are invoiced for the postcards sent. The transaction fee is your cost and can be included in the pricing if you wish (via PostBug setup)

If PostBug does not already support your payment provider, it can be added for an additional cost as a developer needs to do the integration work. For supported payment providers, there is not currently an additional cost.

Current payment provider: Stripe

Stripe is the currently supported payment provider because it works for most payment methods and most countries. To use your own Stripe account you will need:

  1. Test keys: public and secret
  2. Live keys: public and secret
  3. Permissions for these keys: customers:write, customers:read, payment_intents:write, Payment_intents:read, payment_methods:read
  4. Payment methods set via https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/payment_methods/ (requires you to be logged-in)
  5. You may need to add the domain used for the postbug action .e.g. <your-action>.<your-organisation>.postbug.app

Please get in touch if need to discuss the payment provider option or need support implementing it.
